Microsoft has been one of the largest multinational computer technology corporations, creating various milestones in manufacturing, licensing and supporting many software products for computing devices. Not surprisingly it has put a big step forward in Smartphone business too. A Smartphone can be well termed as a small screen, data centric, hand held device. It is designed in such a manner to offer complete phone function and simultaneously functioning as a personal digital assistant (PDA). Giving a work force both mobile and connected it led to business success. Microsoft unveiled its latest new Windows Mobile 6 smart phone software in February 2007 as a step to improve the world's fastest growing mobile operating system. Signing a deal with the third largest mobile phone maker, LG electronics, in February 2009, Microsoft has started licensing Windows mobile on 50 upcoming LG smart phone models. Microsoft branded Smartphone's included specific hardware devices that differ from pocket PC phones. Microsoft's main focus in Smartphone platform was to create a device that functioned as a phone and data device in a well-integrated manner. In this growing Smartphone business Microsoft occupies 13% of the market share. It faces a stiff competition with phone giant Nokia and Apple. It has always stuck to its fundamental strategy and choice of driving with innovation by having different form factors and having one phone out at the same time. This approach took Microsoft a little longer to go ahead in the industry but nonetheless made it to compete in the long run. Samsung running on Verizon and Motorola running on AT&T are two major Microsoft powered Smartphone's in the market. It has some cool features like changing the volume according to the calendar. So when you are in a meeting it would turn the sound off and turn volume back on when not scheduled. Along with the color, the actual layout and features of the opening screen are customizable. Designed as an xml document the entire home and today screen can be dramatically changed. These are features Microsoft claims to make the device a Smartphone. Being able to be used offline and sync-able, data can be accessed quickly from the Smartphone. All Windows Mobile 6 powered devices offer set of device security and management features that includes the ability to remove all remote data if the device is lost or stolen, whilst confidential information remaining intact. The industry is fast taking notice of Microsoft in the wireless arena and realizing the business benefits of its Smartphone devices resulting in the expectation that it will experience the largest growth of mobile operating system worldwide. Now more and more customers are enjoying the benefits of having their office with them while on the move.
