Skype needs no introduction today. Skype is a leading VoIP player; basically it is a software application which allows its users to make calls using internet. Calls to another user on Skype are always free; if you would like to call mobile or landline then you need to pay a small fee. Skype also provides us an array of additional and useful features like video conferencing, file transfer and instant messaging. The software code of Skype was written by developers Ahti Heinla, Priit Kasesalu and Jaan Tallinn; based in Estonia. A Swedish born entrepreneur Niklas Zennstrm was the founder of the Skype Group in 2003. Skype group; has its headquarter in Luxembourg; and offices in San Jose, London, Tallinn, Stockholm, Prague, and Tartu. We have seen a rapid growth in the popularity of Skype since it was launched. Skype also allows their users to receive calls on their PC itself; a local Skype number is allotted to their PC's. Skype for Windows Mobile OS: Despite computers; Skype has also launched software's for Smartphones. Its edition for Windows Mobile OS called Skype 2.5. Skype 2.5 allow users to make free Skype-to-Skype calls, free instant messaging and calls to mobile and landlines anywhere in the world with Skype credit or buying a subscription. You can use Skype in your Smartphone while you are connected to internet via Wi-Fi or 3G. I personally feel that Skype really offers us great voice quality; even sometime you may observe that the Skype call quality is better than the regular mobile or landline phone. The basic requirements of Skype 2.5 are: A Smartphone with Windows Mobile OS loaded. Minimum 12 Mb of free storage memory for smooth functioning. If you are connected to internet via 3G and using Skype then you must check data usages cost; an unlimited data plan in recommended. Wi-Fi connection is preferred; voice quality may not be up to your expectation with 3G connection. Use of a headset is recommended for better sound quality on calls. Skype for BlackBerry: So what Skype basically is doing is that it is covering a wide variety of Smartphone's. Recently Skype has released a lite version for BlackBerry phones; which is compatible with BlackBerry(r) Bold(tm) and BlackBerry(r) Curve(tm) Smartphones; soon compatible with all BlackBerry Smartphones. Although it is named as lite version of Skype but it enables all the features that a Skype 2.5 user can access. However the lite version of the Skype have limitation to call 10 countries only which includes Estonia, Denmark, Australia, Poland, Brazil (Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo), Finland, New Zealand, Sweden, the U.K. and the United States. Skype is working on this lite version and soon the BlackBerry used will also enjoy the freedom to call all over the world with their Smartphones. Despite the Windows Mobile OS phone; Skype is also available for Sony PSP, Skypephones, Android-powered devices, Nokia N800/N810 and Iphone and over 100 other Java-enabled mobile phones.
